  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

On April 26 Cayuga County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Jordan Road and Fire Lane 11 in the Town of Cato. The driver, identified as Paul S. Mettler, was unharmed but investigations revealed that his failure to keep right led to the vehicle crossing into oncoming traffic and subsequently striking a utility pole.

During the investigation, deputies found drug paraphernalia inside Mettler’s vehicle and discovered he had illicit narcotics on his person, which he attempted to conceal. Mettler was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor.

Mettler was processed and released with an appearance ticket for May 6 at the Town of Cato Court. The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward.
