A former commander of the Geneva American Legion has been arrested for allegedly stealing over $92,000 from the nonprofit veterans organization, authorities reported. Dale Henry Mosher, 63, faces charges of second-degree grand larceny after an internal audit and investigation led by the new commander raised suspicions of financial misconduct.
The investigation began in June 2023 when the new commander, after assuming office, struggled to obtain financial records from Mosher, the previous commander. Concerns of financial impropriety prompted the new leader to contact deputies, sparking a deeper probe into the organization’s finances.
Sheriff David Cirencione emphasized the betrayal of trust, noting the American Legion’s role in community service and mentorship. Mosher, who was arraigned in Ontario County CAP Court, has been released on his own recognizance pending further legal proceedings.
