A ceremonial groundbreaking was held Monday for the future home of the Geneva American Legion Post.
The Finger Lakes Times reports members of Winnek Post 396 gathered on land on Routes 5 & 20 in the town of Seneca, near the Salvation Army thrift store for the ceremonies, attended by State Senator Pam Helming and Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan. The membership announced it would sell the current Legion property on Lochland Road in 2018, but a planned sale fell through.
A Pennsylvania developer bought it earlier this year for $1.7 million and announced plans to build Lake’s Edge Seneca, a resort that will include a hotel, restaurant, brewery and town homes. The Legion plans to move to the new location next spring. Chrisanntha Construction of Gorham will build the new post home. The Legion hopes to save money with a smaller building than the current one. Construction is expected to begin soon.
