Wayne County man gets max sentence for child sex abuse

Wayne County Judge Rick Healy has imposed the maximum sentence on David A. Evans, a 34-year-old man convicted of sexually abusing a child. Evans received a sentence of 25 years to life in prison on Wednesday for predatory sexual assault against a child and first-degree attempted rape, following a trial in February.

The case was spearheaded by the Newark Police Department, with Acting District Attorney Christine Callanan leading the prosecution. Although Evans was not a native of Wayne County, he resided in Newark during the time of his crimes.

Callanan emphasized the courage of the young survivor during the trial process, expressing hope that the sentence would restore a sense of safety to her. She also highlighted the essential role of the Child Advocacy Center of Wayne County in supporting the prosecution and aiding survivors.
