The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers are the 2024 NJCAA Men’s Volleyball National Invitational Champions following a 3-1 victory over Monroe College (New Rochelle, N.Y.). First-year head coach Steven Verbridge was named Coach of the Year, while sophomore student-athlete Nick Ferris (Canandaigua, N.Y.) was named Most Valuable Player.
The Lakers rallied to win three straight sets after dropping set one, 25-15 to the Mustangs. The match marked a rematch of Finger Lakes and Monroe’s inaugural 2023 national invitational matchup in the championship. The Lakers’ resiliency paid dividends as the team sealed a remarkable season with a record of 33-3 while extending their win streak to 21 matches.
