Cayuga County man faces child porn charges

A Cayuga County man was arrested and charged with child pornography offenses following a national cyber tip, New York State Police announced. Michael I. Katzenstein, 53, of Genoa, faces charges for promoting and possessing a sexual performance by a child after an investigation spurred by a tip to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in late April 2023.

Katzenstein was arrested on Wednesday and charged with a class D felony for promoting a sexual performance by a child and a class E felony for possessing a sexual performance by a child. He was subsequently taken to the Cayuga County Jail for arraignment at the county’s Centralized Arraignment Part.

The arrest followed several months of investigation by state police, initiated by the CyberTipline report. The case highlights ongoing efforts to combat child exploitation and the critical role of national tip lines in identifying and prosecuting such crimes.
