The New York Mets remain winless after falling 5-0 to the Detroit Tigers in 10 innings at Citi Field on Monday night.
New York had just five hits and three walks against Detroit’s pitching staff. Starling Marte collected two hits, while Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty, and Harrison Bader each had one.
Sean Manaea made his Mets debut and was outstanding, allowing just one hit over six shutout frames while striking out eight. He had a no-hitter going through 5.2 innings before Andy Ibanez ended it with a single through the left side.
Michael Tonkin gave up all five runs, but they were unearned because of Joey Wendle’s fielding error.
The Mets will try to win their first game on Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. and even the three-game series. Adrian Houser will make his Mets debut.
