Palmyra police arrest woman for starving dog

After an anonymous tip, Palmyra Village Police discovered a severely underfed Bloodhound in an apartment on Johnson Road.

The dog’s owner, 24-year-old Amanda Steen, was reluctant to let officers inside but showed them the dog, Athena, in the hallway. Athena, along with several healthier cats, was removed from the premises due to the dire conditions.

The discovery on February 29 led to Steen’s charge for failing to provide proper sustenance to an animal, as she admitted to struggling with finding food Athena would eat.

Athena was taken to the Humane Society of Wayne County for recovery, where she has since made significant progress. Initially weighing 38 pounds, Athena’s weight rose to 53 pounds under the care of the Humane Society.
