The former Newark Garden Hotel, located at 125 North Main Street, is up for sale once more, after a $10 million renovation plan by its new owners failed to take off due to financing issues.

Purchased in December 2022 with ambitious plans to transform it into the Waterside Hotel, including the addition of a third floor for short-term rentals, the project fell through when a partner withdrew.

The property, now listed for $2.5 million, offers potential buyers a site with a storied history and possibilities for redevelopment, according to the Finger Lakes Times.

The sale, handled by Hanna Commercial Real Estate, showcases the property’s 107 rooms, and amenities such as a bar, restaurant, and banquet facilities.

Despite the setback, the listing hints at ongoing plans for branding the site as a Wyndham Garden Inn. However, the broader challenges of financing and high interest rates have made hotel development in Newark difficult, as evidenced by other stalled projects in the area.

Newark, currently without operating hotels, remains optimistic about attracting developers for new lodging ventures, including a proposed Microtel by Indus Hospitality.
