The Village of Newark has designated Nov. 1 as Extra Mile Day to recognize volunteerism, service and the efforts of people and organizations making a difference in their community.
Mayor Jonathan Taylor issued the proclamation following a Village Board vote, according to the village proclamation.
The observance highlights the ability of individuals to create positive change in their families, organizations, communities and personal lives when they “go the extra mile.”
The proclamation also expresses support for Extra Mile America's mission to create 550 Extra Mile cities across the country.
Taylor urged residents to give their full effort to their personal ambitions, families, friends and community on Nov. 1, and to recognize individuals and organizations whose work and commitment inspire and help others.
