Harriet Tubman Events Grant returns for third year in Cayuga County

The Cayuga County Tourism Office recently announced the return of the Harriet Tubman Events Grant for its third year, inviting local businesses and organizations to create public events that celebrate the life and legacy of Harriet Tubman. With a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, the grant aims to fund events that not only educate and entertain but also promote inclusivity and attract visitors from beyond the immediate area, running from May to December 2024.

Karen Kuhl, Executive Director of Tour Cayuga, highlighted the significance of Tubman’s fifty-year residence in Cayuga County, expressing pride in supporting events that honor her remarkable history. Last year’s grant beneficiaries, including notable community centers and museums, praised the grant’s role in facilitating successful and engaging events, underscoring its positive impact on regional tourism.

Applications for the grant are open until April 15, 2024, with awardees to be announced on May 9, 2024. This initiative reflects the community’s commitment to remembering and learning from Harriet Tubman’s enduring legacy, encouraging creative and inclusive commemorations throughout Cayuga County.
