Midlakes’ Aiden Bryant leaps to two State Titles

Midlakes Sophomore Aiden Bryant won two state titles during the 2024 New York State Indoor Track & Field Championships held on Saturday, March 2, at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island.

Bryant set a personal best of 49 feet and a half-inch in winning the triple jump by nearly three feet, following jumps of 46-3, 46-10, and 48-6. His winning jump also reset the sophomore state record, which Bryant had set a week earlier to break a record from 1989.

He then went on to win the long jump title with a high mark of 23 feet, 5.75 inches. He also landed jumps of 23-2.5, 23.5.25 and 22-7.5.

“We’ve been talking about the state meet all season, and he’s been laser-focused on not just contending but winning these state titles,” said Aidan Cort, head coach. “His accomplishments this season are nothing short of remarkable and are a testament to his work ethic, humility, and unwavering focus. His technical mindset and meticulous nature are great assets for a jumper and will continue to carry him to new heights (or distances) going forward.”

Cort added that Bryant is currently ranked on several national lists, landing fourth in the country in the triple jump and fourteenth in the long jump.

Among sophomores, he is ranked first in the country in the triple jump and has the second-best triple jump on the all-time list. He is ranked second among sophomores nationally in the long jump, Cort added.
