A Syracuse teenager involved in a shooting with an Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy was arrested in Rochester for possession of a stolen vehicle, according to Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick. The incident occurred in September when the teen was reportedly driving a stolen car with two other youths, resulting in a tragic confrontation with Deputy John Rosello.
The teen, currently 17, is facing charges in Monroe County for possessing stolen property, a felony. Additionally, he is under investigation for other crimes, including burglary in the Rochester area. The September incident involved the burglary of two smoke shops, followed by a pursuit by Deputy Rosello, who fired at the fleeing car, fatally wounding 15-year-old Lueth Mo and 17-year-old Dhal Apet.
While the case remains under investigation by the New York State Attorney General’s Office, no charges have been filed against the surviving teen driver or Deputy Rosello. The shooting has sparked controversy and legal action, with the teen’s mother filing a claim against the Sheriff’s Office citing the psychological impact on her family.
