State police investigate fatal kayaking accident in Southport

A kayaking excursion in the town of Southport ended in tragedy, prompting an investigation by the New York State Police. On January 28, 2024, at around 1:39 p.m., a 44-year-old man’s kayak capsized on Seeley Creek, leading to a fatal outcome. The man was kayaking with two companions when the accident occurred.


Despite rescue efforts, the victim, whose kayak overturned, was later pronounced dead at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. This incident was confirmed by the State Police from SP Horseheads, who responded to the emergency. The other two kayakers managed to reach the shore safely, escaping any harm.
