A vacant home in Montour Falls was engulfed in flames early Sunday morning, prompting a rapid response from local fire departments. The incident occurred on Owego Street, where firefighters were dispatched shortly after 11 a.m.
Montour Falls Fire Chief Brian Swartwood reported that upon arrival, crews encountered intense flames at the rear of the property. However, firefighters successfully contained the blaze, preventing further damage.
Authorities confirmed that the house was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and thankfully, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Schuyler County Fire Investigators. Responding to the emergency were teams from Montour Falls Fire Department, Watkins Glen Fire Department, Odessa Fire Department, and the Beaver Dams Fire Department, collaboratively working to control and extinguish the fire.
