Family displaced after structure fire in Varick: Home and vehicle destroyed

In Varick a house fire led to the displacement of a family and caused significant property damage on January 13.

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to the fire at 1456 Route 336 around 8:19 p.m. Upon arrival, the homeowner Howard Brothers Jr., along with three others were found outside the residence, with no one else inside the house.

The Varick Fire Department, assisted by multiple neighboring departments, extinguished the fire.

Two juveniles suffered smoke inhalation and were transported to Geneva General Hospital by North Seneca and South Seneca Ambulances.

The fire, initially determined to be accidental by the Seneca County Fire Investigation Team, resulted in considerable damage estimated in the tens of thousands of dollars, including a vehicle. Neither the home nor the vehicle was insured.

The Red Cross has been contacted to provide assistance to the affected family.
