#1 Hobart tops New England College 5-0

The top-ranked Hobart College hockey scored three goals in the second period and never looked back as it defeated New England College 5-0 in a New England Hockey Conference contest at Lee Clement Arena this evening. With their 10th straight win, the Statesmen are now 14-2-0 overall with an 8-1-0 mark in NEHC play.

Sophomore Tanner Daniels (1g, 1a), first-year Conor Lally (2a) and senior Christian Duvall (1g, 1a) finished with multi-point games for Hobart. Sophomore Mavrick Goyer played all 60 minutes in goal and made 15 saves as he recorded his fifth shutout of the season.

Kai Tomita played all 60 minutes in goal for the Pilgrims (3-13-1, 1-8-1). He made 40 saves.

RECORD WATCH

  • This is Hobart’s fourth winning streak of 10 or more games in program history. Three of those four streaks have come in the past two seasons.
  • With his third straight shutout, Goyer now has five this season. It is second on Hobart’s single-season list, two behind Damon Beaver’s seven from last year.
  • Hobart now has nine shutouts as a team this season, tied for the program’s single-season mark. The Statesmen had nine shutouts last year.

  • The Statesmen opened the scoring at the 3:56 mark of the second period. Duvall redirected a centering pass from Matthieu Wuth past Tomita for his second goal of the season. Wil Crane also recorded an assist on the goal.
  • Three minutes later, Tanner Daniels gave the Statesmen a 2-0 lead. He one-timed a shot from the low slot across the goal line for his fourth goal of the season. Connor Lally and Bauer Morrissey were awarded assists on the power-play goal.
  • Cooper Swift extended the Statesmen’s lead to three goals with just under 90 seconds remaining in the frame. He wristed a shot from the left faceoff circle past Tomita for his second goal of the season. Luke Aquaro was awarded an assist on the tally.
  • At the 11:04 mark of the third period, Tristan Fasig beat Tomita to make it 4-0. His fourth goal of the season was assisted by Daniels and Kahlil Fontana.
  • Ethan Mulhearn wrapped up the scoring with just under five minutes remaining in regulation. He redirected a Lally point shot past Tomita for his second goal of the season. Duvall also had an assist on the goal.

UP NEXT

Hobart will conclude its four-game road trip tomorrow, Jan. 13, when it heads to Northfield, Vermont. The Statesmen will take on 13th-ranked Norwich at Kreitzberg Arena. Faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
