State police: Penfield man charged with stalking after harassing people by mail, email

Thomas M. McCorry, a 48-year-old resident of Penfield was arrested on charges of third-degree stalking, second-degree criminal impersonation, and second-degree aggravated harassment.

The investigation began when troopers from SP Clarence received a report of a potential stalking incident on September 15, 2023. The complaint involved two victims who were receiving threatening and harassing emails and physical mail.

During the investigation, McCorry was found to have impersonated Investigator Richard Harder in some of the digital correspondence sent to the victims.

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation executed multiple warrants to gather IP addresses and other vital information, leading to the identification of McCorry as the suspect.

McCorry was apprehended and processed at SP Penfield in Troop E without any issues. Following his arrest, he was arraigned in the Town of Penfield Court and released on his own recognizance.

Additionally, an Order of Protection was issued against McCorry. This case highlights the serious nature of stalking and harassment offenses, as well as the diligent efforts of law enforcement to protect victims and bring perpetrators to justice.
