Sheriff: Passenger obstructed roadside investigation, taken into custody in Port Byron

One person is in custody after a traffic stop escalated in Cayuga County last week.

Sheriff Brian Schenck of the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of Shawn M. Farrell for second-degree obstruction.

The arrest occurred on November 18 following a traffic stop in the village of Port Byron. Farrell, who was a front seat passenger in the vehicle that was stopped, displayed threatening and aggressive behavior that interfered with the deputy’s efforts during the traffic investigation.

During the traffic stop, which took place around 12:50 a.m., Farrell’s actions escalated to a point where law enforcement officials deemed it necessary to remove him from the vehicle. His conduct not only disrupted the traffic stop but also necessitated his arrest to ensure the continuation of the investigation and the safety of those involved.

Following his arrest, Farrell was taken to the Public Safety Building for processing. He was subsequently released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Village of Port Byron Court on December 5.
