The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office provided an update on the late-afternoon fire that prompted the shutdown of 5&20 in Hopewell.
Deputies say that minutes before 5 p.m. on Sunday first responders from Hopewell, Crystal Beach, and Cheshire responded to 4135 State Routes 5&20 for a structure fire.
Upon arrival, crews saw smoke and flames coming from the east side of a mobile home at that address. The sole occupant, identified as 86-year-old Ronald Edwards, of Hopewell, was outside the home and safe without injuries.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze, but significant damage was done to the structure. Unfortunately, Edwards was not able to remain and was provided temporary housing by the Red Cross.
The roadway was shut down for a few hours so first responders could easily access the scene, according to deputies.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
