Four held without bail after traffic stop in Schuyler leads to major drug bust

On October 5 shortly before 2:30 a.m. deputies in Cayuta made a routine traffic stop on a 2013 Nissan Altima for a traffic violation.

The stop quickly escalated into a major drug bust as deputies uncovered approximately 15.5 ounces of Methamphetamine, around 9 ounces of Cannabis, a quantity of Cocaine, forged documents, and drug-related paraphernalia.

The operation led to the arrest of Zane J Kotmel, 18, from Ithaca, Kanye A Rouse, 19, from Elmira, Rayquan T Brooks, 23, from Newfield, and Mariah M Scutt-Cornell, 19, from Brooktondale.


The charges range from felony drug possession to criminal impersonation.

All were arraigned in Schuyler County CAP Court and are currently held without bail at the Schuyler County Jail.

The arrest was a collaborated effort, with Sheriff’s K9 Digit, Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, and the New York State Police assisting.
