New York will expand access to adult-use cannabis licensing in October

In a landmark move by the New York State Cannabis Control Board, general licensing applications for the adult-use cannabis market will be available to a broader range of individuals and small businesses from October 4, 2023.

This decision signifies the most considerable expansion of the state’s cannabis sector since the drug’s legalization in 2021.

Chris Alexander, the Executive Director of the Office of Cannabis Management, expressed pride in the state’s progress, stating, “Today marks the most significant expansion of New York’s legal cannabis market since legalization.”

He emphasized the state’s commitment to building a just and competitive cannabis industry that favors all New Yorkers over large corporations. This expansion follows a brief halt in issuing new cannabis retail licenses due to a legal injunction upheld last month.
