City of Geneva, BID team up to combat weeds in landscaping beds

Significant strides are being made in Geneva’s ongoing battle against unsightly weeds in the city’s numerous landscaping beds.

The Finger Lakes Times reports that following concerns in 2022 about the state of these beds, especially those established as part of the downtown streetscape and Routes 5&20 work, the Business Improvement District (BID) stepped in.

With the aid of nearly $135,000 in combined funds from the city, Industrial Development Agency, and Local Development Corp., the team overseeing these beds has grown. It now includes a maintenance supervisor, three full-time employees, two part-timers, and contractors.

They oversee 62 landscaping beds and maintain street furniture. However, challenges persist, particularly with the landscaping on the Routes 5&20 median. Due to its location, worker safety is a significant concern, requiring lane closures for maintenance.
