Local authorities are investigating a potential scam related to the Steuben County Board of Elections.
The county’s Sheriff’s Office has received reports of an individual claiming to represent the Board of Elections visiting a resident in the Urbana region and inquiring about personal identification details on Aug. 23.
Notably, when asked to present credentials, the individual failed to produce any form of identification and promptly left the premises. Steuben County Board of Elections Commissioners clarified that its members never conduct home visits for gathering personal data.
Residents who come across anyone misrepresenting themselves as board members are urged to dial 911 and report the suspicious activity.
