Governor Kathy Hochul officially appointed Sean Hennessey as the full-time director of the New York State Fair, her office announced Monday.
Hennessey had been serving as the interim director since May 2022, after former director Troy Waffner left to oversee New York’s county fairs. Before his interim position, Hennessey was the assistant fair director.
“Sean has proven himself to be an innovative and capable leader,” Hochul said in a statement, welcoming him officially to the role. Hennessey expressed his gratitude, stating, “I am privileged to be a part of The Great New York State Fair, a true tradition and cultural institution in New York State.” He looks forward to leading the team for the 2023 fair, which is scheduled to run from Aug. 23 to Sept. 4.
