Auburn murder suspect deemed unfit for trial: Sent to psychiatric facility

A man charged with the murder of a city resident last year has been ruled unfit for trial and is now under care at a state psychiatric facility.

The Citizen reports Daniel D. Nachtsheim, accused of the fatal stabbing of 57-year-old Michael Dennison in August 2022, was determined by Judge Thomas Leone of Cayuga County Court to be an “incapacitated person.”

This came following a psychiatric examination on July 13.

This ruling indicates Nachtsheim’s current inability to comprehend the proceedings or aid in his defense. He’ll have to be reassessed within a year, according to prosecutors.
