The Town of Seneca is poised to discuss a potential one-year moratorium on permits for commercial event centers located within residential zones.
A unanimous vote on July 18 paved the way for a public hearing, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, to deliberate on the proposed local law.
The temporary ban comes in response to numerous complaints regarding noise disturbances and related concerns stemming from events held in residential areas.
The moratorium, however, would not encompass event centers in commercial districts or those recognized as home-based businesses.
Officials say the goal is simple: To allow ample time to evaluate current town laws surrounding event venues, especially for commercial gatherings like weddings, and potentially suggest alterations to the statutes.
