Contractor sentenced in Cayuga County for scamming homeowners out of $19K

A local contractor is headed to prison after scamming local homeowners out of a significant amount of cash.

Michael Young has been sentenced to an indeterminate term of two to four years imprisonment for defrauding two separate Cayuga County couples out of nearly $19,000 for home improvement projects he failed to complete.

He was also ordered to pay full restitution to the victims.

The fraudulent activities took place between May and August of 2022, during which Young took $12,000 from the first couple after partially completing a job in the town of Locke, and $7,000 from a second couple in Summerhill, without initiating any work.

Young was convicted by the Cayuga County Court after pleading guilty on June 14.
