Strong current at Keuka Outlet leads to water rescue in Yates County

A woman and her dog were rescued from the Keuka Outlet in Dresden on Tuesday morning after they were caught in a strong current, according to first responders.

The woman contacted Yates County 911 shortly after 10 a.m., reporting she was clinging to a tree limb approximately two-tenths of a mile south of the Dresden bridge, with her dog also in the water.

The Dresden Fire Department and the Branchport-Keuka Park fire department’s dive team responded to the scene. The dog managed to get itself out of the water, its barking aiding firefighters in locating the woman.

By around 10:40 a.m., the woman was rescued.

As of now, it is not known if the woman was injured, but a request for LifeNet to transport her to the hospital was declined. The Penn Yan Ambulance also responded to the scene.
