Yankees take series opener from Athletics

The New York Yankees (19-17) bounced back from Sunday’s tough loss with a 7-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics (8-28) on Monday night at Yankee Stadium.

New York scored seven runs in back-to-back games for the first time this season behind a season-high four home runs.

Oswaldo Cabrera, Gleyber Torres, DJ LeMahieu, and Aaron Hicks all went deep.

Nestor Cortes tossed five innings of two-run ball while allowing six hits, two walks, and striking out four.

The Yankees will try to win the series on Tuesday with Clarke Schmidt on the hill. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
