The deadline for public comments on New York’s solid waste plan draft has been extended to June 14.
The draft builds on the state’s 2010 plan and aims to reduce waste while promoting a transition to a circular economy. It seeks to change residents’ perspectives on waste and their relationship with it. Once finalized, the plan will guide actions from the beginning of this year until the end of 2032.
The solid waste plan focuses on six key areas: waste prevention, reduction, and reuse; recycling and recycling market development and resiliency; product stewardship and extended producer responsibility; organics reduction and recycling; toxins in products; and design and operation of solid waste management facilities and related activities.
