Despite clearing skies and warming temperatures this morning it’s going to be an active weather day across the Finger Lakes and Central New York.
It will likely feel like mid-spring as you step outside, but the National Weather Service is watching a window of time this afternoon- where severe thunderstorms are possible.
That threat comes with a cold front, which will be moving across Western and Central New York between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. While not everyone will see strong or severe thunderstorms, gusty winds will be a concern.
Gusts between 40 and 50 mph across the region have prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Wind Advisory.
The National Weather Service says the main threat with thunderstorms associated with that cold front will be damaging winds and hail. Most of the region is under ‘Slight Risk’ category from the Storm Prediction Center, which is typical of days in the spring and summer when severe weather is going to play out in Upstate New York.
