Dollar Tree is pausing sale of eggs due to high prices. This despite reports over the weekend that the price of eggs is falling.
Dollar Tree, like Dollar General, serve as a life line in many rural communities due to the overall decline of mom and pop grocery stores. So, when a store like Dollar Tree stops selling a product like eggs – it gives many residents pause.
A spokesperson for Dollar Tree says they will resume selling eggs when prices return to ‘normalcy’. But, that could be a very long time. Further, there’s no telling when prices will hit something that reflects ‘normal’.
The price of a dozen eggs sits at more than $4.20. Less than two years ago the average price of a dozen eggs sat at less than $2.00.
