The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a jail inmate following an incident over the weekend.

James L. Dyer, a 37-year-old inmate at the Seneca County Jail in Seneca Falls, New York, has been charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and promoting prison contraband in the first degree. The charges were filed on March 3, 2023, at around 11:15 a.m. by investigators from the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.

According to law enforcement officials, Dyer was found in possession of fentanyl while being processed into the Seneca County Correctional Facility. Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid that is known to be highly addictive and potentially deadly.

Dyer was arraigned at the Seneca County CAP Court on the same day and was remanded into the custody of the Seneca County Correctional Facility. He will answer the charges at a later date.
