Driver taken into custody at gunpoint after crash in Big Flats

A person was taken into custody at gunpoint following a car crash in Big Flats on Wednesday evening according to reporting from WENY.


The incident occurred at the intersection of County Route 64 and Harris Hill Road at around 6:30 p.m. when a car hit a utility pole, causing it to snap in two places, leaving communication and power lines suspended in the air.

WENY viewer submitted photos captured the scene, with an individual near the crash on their knees as police closed in with guns drawn. Smoke could be seen filling the car’s cab, and the front brake rotors were glowing bright red. The person’s identity and role in the crash have not yet been disclosed.


WENY reported that one person was taken away in an ambulance.

First responders blocked the area off as crews worked to clear the scene, causing traffic disruptions in the area. The circumstances surrounding the crash and subsequent arrest are still under investigation, and more details are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
