Sheriff: Bath man accused of misusing benefit card issued by social services

On February 21st Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reported that Deputies and Investigators of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Evin A. Swarthout, 31 of Bath, for allegedly misusing a benefit card issued by the Steuben County Department of Social Services.

According to authorities, on June 12th, 2022, Swarthout used another person’s benefit card to obtain benefits that he was not entitled or authorized to receive.

As a result of the alleged misuse, Swarthout has been charged with Misuse of Food Stamps and Petit Larceny. He is scheduled to appear in the Village of Bath Court at a later date.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit, and the District Attorney’s Office.
