Investigation leads to attempted burglary charges in Tompkins County

A man has been charged with attempted burglary and possession of burglar tools in connection with an attempted break-in at Ithaca Tofu Oriental Market and two other incidents, according to Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputies.

On February 11, 2023, just after midnight, a male was captured on video attempting to break into the Ithaca Tofu Oriental Market located at 23 Cinema Drive in the Village of Lansing. The suspect was seen leaving the scene after being unsuccessful.

Deputies reviewed the video and identified the suspect as the same person who attempted to break into the East Hill Car Wash and Ling Ling Garden Restaurants later that same morning. Both incidents were captured on video surveillance.

The suspect, identified as Kastenhuber, was already in custody on a previous arrest when deputies and investigators charged him on February 20, 2023, with Attempted Burglary in the Third Degree (Class E Felony) and Possession of Burglar Tools (Class A Misdemeanor). Kastenhuber was scheduled to be arraigned on the additional charges on the same day.

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about the incidents to come forward.
