Geneva police have charged a local man with driving while intoxicated after his car went off Routes 5&20 and ended up near Long Pier on Tuesday evening.
Robert F. Prayne, 58, of Geneva, was charged with a misdemeanor count of DWI, according to police Lt. Matt Colton. Prayne was also charged with several traffic infractions, including failure to keep right, failure to use a designated lane, and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle.
The incident took place at around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Prayne was driving west on Lakeshore Drive when his SUV crossed over the median, went through the eastbound lane, and across the parking lot at 41 Lakefront Hotel (formerly the Ramada). The vehicle went over a knoll before coming to a stop near Long Pier.
Vehicle parts were scattered along the path that the SUV had taken, and some parts were seen hanging from a small tree.
The Geneva Police Department and Geneva Fire Department arrived at the scene within minutes. Prayne was taken to Geneva General Hospital by ambulance and later charged with DWI.
Fortunately, no pedestrians or other vehicles were involved in the incident.
