Two men were taken into custody on Wednesday after police in Elmira, New York, stopped their vehicle for various traffic violations and discovered a handgun had been thrown from the car.
According to the Elmira City Police, 37-year-old Elliot Barner and 24-year-old Ryan Bashore were arrested without incident. The handgun, which was found in a residential area, was identified as a 9 mm gun.
Both Barner and Bashore have been charged with second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Barner was also charged with various violations of the vehicle and traffic law, including aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree.
Bashore has outstanding warrants for his arrest from the City of Elmira, the Village of Elmira Heights, and the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
