Canandaigua man, convicted felon found with loaded 9mm firearm during traffic stop in Rochester

On January 15th state police were on patrol in Rochester when they observed a vehicle traveling without its headlights on along Lake Avenue. Troopers pulled over the vehicle and identified the driver as Mackenzie Mcfarland, of Rochester.

During the stop, when Mcfarland attempted to produce paperwork for the vehicle, troopers observed a handgun in the glovebox. Both McFarland and his passenger, Tyjuan Mason, of Canandaigua, were detained for the illegal possession of the weapon. The handgun was identified as a Beretta APX 9mm, loaded with a 17 round magazine.

Mcfarland also failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was arrested for driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of 0.11%.

Both Mcfarland and Mason were arrested for felony criminal possession of a weapon and possessing a loaded firearm with a large capacity feeding device. Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, for possessing a loaded firearm with a large capacity feeding device. Mason was also arrested for second-degree criminal possession of a weapon due to a prior conviction of the same charge.
