New York Teams Firmly in 2023 MLB Contention

Another new year has arrived and, for baseball fans, it means that they can begin the countdown to the new MLB season. There was plenty of interest for the Finger Lakes region in 2022 as the New York Yankees progressed to the American League finals where they ultimately went down to World Series champions the Houston Astros.

Over in the National League, the New York Mets finished in second place in the East Division. Hopes of a place in the later rounds were ended in the Wild Card series by San Diego, but can either New York team go one better next season?

Yankees Ranked

There is plenty of support among the neutrals for both New York sides. As the 2023 campaign draws closer, the Yankees are third favorites for the World Series win behind the LA Dodgers and defending champions the Houston Astros.

Based on their performance from last season, the independent viewpoint shows that the Yankees are expected to make it through to the American League final once again. Their biggest challenge in terms of progression to the world series will then come via the Houston Astros.

It’s a familiar picture, but the team won’t be complacent as they work their way through the earlier rounds. The verdict on all MLB teams here is given by the baseball betting markets. Over at SBO they have collated odds from around the industry and they will be available on their website throughout the calendar year.

Once the 2023 season gets underway, the prices will switch to the live section of each sportsbook and they will remain in place until the winner is confirmed. Readers can assess the fluctuating odds while accessing supporting information such as breaking news and general blog posts.

Each sportsbook is reviewed and, if they look interesting, any eligible players can get involved. All bookmakers on the SBO panel will welcome new customers and many will publish a generous welcome deal to get things moving.

A selection of funding providers will handle deposits and withdrawals, while customer services will step in when they are required. Those who choose to play for the long term may be able to access a loyalty program, along with other promotions, plus mobile betting and live markets.

It’s a one-stop shop for all baseball betting, but what about that other New York side?

Mets Assessed

By taking the neutral standpoint once again, we can see that the New York Mets are also listed as joint third favorites in places. In 2022, they were beaten at the first knockout stage so it needs an improvement if the team is to justify those odds.

Their position in the markets suggests that the Mets have a probability of making it to the National League final. At that point, the Los Angeles Dodgers will offer the biggest threat.

Of course, sporting events rarely go with form, but there is a suggestion that the MLB could have an all-New York final in 2023.

The Verdict

All MLB franchise teams will be looking for trades in the off season to strengthen their rosters. For the New York Yankees, the biggest change may have come internally with the announcement of Aaron Judge as captain.

The New York Mets have been busier. First up was the news that the team had signed Japanese pitcher Kodai Senga who made his Nippon Professional Baseball League debut for Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in 2012. Shortly after the news broke, the Mets confirmed the deal that took catcher Omar Narvaez to Citi Field.

Also joining the Mets’ roster is Adam Ottavino, the veteran, 37-year-old pitcher. The former Yankees man returns to New York after a season with the Boston Red Sox.

Further deals will almost certainly be in prospect while the MLB draft will also have an effect on the respective New York rosters.

It’s been eight years since either of those two New York franchises made it through to the World Series. The Mets made an appearance in the final of the 2015 season, but went down 4-1 to the Kansas City Royals.

For the city’s most recent pennant, we have to go back even further to 2009 when the Yankees overcame the Philadelphia Phillies by four games to two. Could this be the year when either team ends 14 years of New York hurt?
