Flu count skyrockets in first reported week of December: How many are hospitalized?

New York State has seen a 64% increase in confirmed cases of influenza.

The latest report shows 44,426 cases in New York. Type A is the most-prominent flu strain going around New York with more than 41,000 confirmed cases of it.

Flu activity is now considered geographically widespread.

The reporting week ending December 3rd marked the ninth consecutive week that flu numbers were widespread.


There were 2,465 people hospitalized with confirmed cases of flu in New York. That’s a 58% increase over the prior period.

Health experts say flu, combined with RSV and COVID-19 pose a concerning threat to hospitals and healthcare facilities across New York. Especially as the holiday season continues and the state heads into the coldest months of the year.
