Modern quilt artist Daisy Aschehoug of Nesodden, Norway, will give a Trunk Show talk and artwork display at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022, at the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, NY. Her piece, “Spinning Tradition,” is one of 69 art quilts included in “Quilts=Art=Quilts 2022” exhibition at the art center.

An American who moved to Norway with her family in 2017, Aschehoug often incorporates geometric shapes, especially curves, in her artwork. She designs and makes quilts for modern quilting publications, lectures, and teaches workshops on modern quilting, curved piecing, and technology and quilt design.

The final Trunk Show of “Quilts=Art=Quilts 2022” will be given by quilt artist Mari Townsend of Candor, NY, at 2 p.m. Dec. 11. Townsend is Candor town justice and assistant Tioga County attorney who took an introductory quilting class with her mother in the 1990s and returned to quilting after completing law school and passing the bar exam.

Schweinfurth’s Trunk Shows are not ordinary lectures. Artists bring a variety of their work to display and discuss their background, art-making process, and influences for individual pieces.

Trunk Shows are free with regular admission, which is $10 per person. Schweinfurth members, exhibiting artists, and children 12 or under are free. However, Townsend’s Trunk Show occurs on Holiday Traditions, a one-day, Auburn-wide holiday celebration during which Schweinfurth admission is free.
