Hobart College first-year Damon Beaver was named the New England Hockey Conference Goaltender of the Week. This is the second straight week that Beaver was honored by the conference. In addition, the Statesmen were ranked No. 1 in the USCHO.com poll for the second straight week and received all 20 first-place votes.
The Statesmen extended their winning streak to eight games with a pair of wins over NEHC foes this weekend. Hobart (8-0-0, 4-0-0) beat Johnson and Wales 5-0 on Friday and then knocked off UMass Boston 3-0 on Saturday. It is the ninth time in program history that the Statesmen have had a winning streak of eight or more games and just the second time they have won eight straight games to start the season. Hobart has also posted three consecutive shutouts, a program record. The Statesmen recorded back-to-back shutouts eight times.
A week after being named the Rookie of the Week, Beaver posted his second consecutive shutout stopping all 26 shots he faced in a 3-0 win over UMass Boston. He is the first Hobart goalie to post consecutive shutouts since Alexander Connal in 2018-19. Beaver is the fourth Statesman goalie to record back-to-back shutouts, joining Connal, Keith Longo, and Timothy Kelliher. Connal and Longo both did it twice.
Beaver is 4-0-0 this season with a 0.75 goals-against average and a .971 save percentage. Beaver is second in the nation’s goals-against average and third in save percentage.
Hobart enters the Thanksgiving break ranked first in the nation in winning percentage (1.000), third in scoring defense (1.12) and scoring margin (3.25), seventh in scoring offense (4.38), eighth in assists (54) and points (89), 10th in power play percentage (.310) and 11th in penalty killing percentage (.929).
The Statesmen will be back in action on December 2, when they begin a five-game homestand against Castleton.
