For the first time since 2016, the Syracuse Orange men’s soccer team is headed to the Sweet 16.

The three-seeded Orange picked up a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Ivy League champion Penn Quakers on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, Syracuse improves to 15-2-4 on the season, the most wins in a season since 2015.

Penn scored the first goal of the game in the 52nd minute, but Syracuse responded in the 60th minute as Nathan Opoku netted his ninth goal of the season. After neither team could find the back of the net again in regulation, Levonte Johnson scored the game-winning goal 57 seconds into overtime, sending the Orange to the next round.

Syracuse will square off with Cornell in the third round of the NCAA Tournament next Saturday. The time is to be determined.
