Sheriff Brian Schenck reports the arrest of two people after an illegal gun was located during a welfare check.
According to a news release, Donnie Birdine, 21, and Reginald Abrams, 35, were arrested after deputies were called to an area of Number One and Ridge roads in Fleming for a car blocking traffic.
While investigating, Birdine, who was the driver of the vehicle, was found to be in possession of an unregistered handgun that was reported stolen out of Florida.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of cocaine and other drugs that were illegally possessed.
Birdine was charged with felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property, as well as a misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
He was arraigned on the charges and held at the Cayuga County Jail.
Abrams was charged with criminal use of drug paraphernalia and issued appearance tickets.
New York State Police assisted with the investigation.
