Midlakes seniors organize series of blood drives to help with shortage: When are they happening?

Three seniors at the Midlakes High School took matters into their own hands when they learned about the blood shortage that exists in the healthcare setting.

Cate Peacock, Callie Walker, and Hanna Godkin have been working to recruit blood donors, for the first of four blood drives that will happen at the school’s gymnasium this school year.

The first will be held Friday, October 21st from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The next three will be held January 5th, March 14th, and May 25th.

Hurricane Ian created greater need, like most natural disasters tend to, and the Red Cross was already dealing with shortages of donated blood for the last 2-3 years.

Donors must weigh 110 lbs and be in good health. They must also be at least 16 years old. It takes approximately 30 minutes to donate blood.
