Aroldis Chapman left off Yankees ALDS roster after skipping workout

New York Yankees reliever Aroldis Chapman will not be on the roster for the American League Division Series after he skipped a team workout on Friday, manager Aaron Boone announced Sunday.

Even before this incident, Chapman was likely to be left off the roster because of poor performance. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported last week that the Yankees were considering designating him for assignment.

The 34-year-old will be a free agent at the end of this season. He appeared in 43 games this season, posting a 4.46 ERA and a 1.54 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Chapman has not recorded a save since May 17.

The Yankees will begin their postseason run on Tuesday when they face the Cleveland Guardians in a best-of-five Division Series.
