The New York Yankees cruised past the Pittsburgh Pirates, 14-2, on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium to complete the two-game sweep.
Oswaldo Cabrera set the tone with a first-inning grand slam, the third home run of his Major League career. The rookie finished with a career-high five RBIs. Gleyber Torres smacked his 22nd and 23rd home runs in the same inning, becoming the fifth player in franchise history to do that. Torres collected three hits and five RBIs. Harrison Bader had another nice night at the plate as he drove in a pair of runs. He has registered five RBIs in his first two games with the Yankees. Josh Donaldson and Jose Trevino chipped in with run-scoring singles.
Luis Severino made his first start since July 13 and tossed five innings of one-run ball. Lucas Luetge surrendered a run over two innings in relief. Ron Marinaccio and Greg Weissert each tossed a scoreless frame.
The Yankees will begin a four-game series with the Boston Red Sox on Thursday in the Bronx. The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. on FOX.
