Homeowner tax credit: New Yorkers ask, my neighbor received theirs already, so where’s mine?

The New York State Homeowner Tax Rebate Credit (HTRC) is a one-year program to provide tax relief to 2.5 million homeowners.

Some New Yorkers are wondering: Where is my tax credit and when will it arrive?

The state began sending out HTRC checks mid-summer, according to News10 NBC.

As a reminder, there are eligibility requirements for HTRCs.

Eligible homeowners must have:

  • qualified for a 2022 STAR credit or exemption,
  • had income that was less than or equal to $250,000 for the 2020 income tax year, and
  • a school tax liability for the 2022-2023 school year that is more than your 2022 STAR benefit.

The amount per check differs based on location and income.

Checks are still going out, the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance told News10.

You can verify the amount you are expected to receive here.

If the check amount field reads ‘not eligible,’ that means your credit would be less than $100 and therefore will not be sent.
